True Adventurer: 57,000 studs
Story Mode Characters: Indiana Jones, Sallah, Marion
Characters Unlocked: Sallah (Desert), Marion (Evening Dress), Indiana Jones (Desert Disguise), Belloq, Enemy Officer (Desert), Bandit
Free Play Skills Required: Academic, Explosion, Small Size
Artifact: Anubis Statue
Parcel/Extra: Fast Dig (50,000 studs)

Area 1: Snake Pit

At the start of the level you control Indy and Sallah. Have either one of them pick up the blue book near the urns on the left. Avoid the snake pit running around the edges of the room. Falling in results in instant death.

Indy's snake phobia makes him pretty useless here, but you'll need him to stand on the whip platform and pull the ledge out from the opposite side of the pit. Then switch to Sallah and jump across.

On the other side, flanking the huge doorway, are 2 small LEGO statues of the Egyptian god Anubis. Push the left statue forward. Out pops a small pile of LEGO bits. Use these to build a campfire on the ledge. Push the right statue forward to reveal a burning torch. Pick it up and use it to light the fire. The ledge collapses into the pit, but the fire continues to burn, keeping the snakes away. Now Indy won't be afraid to cross.

While you're at it, hop down into the snake pit and move to the far, left corner to get artifact piece #1. As long as Sallah is still holding the torch, it will keep the snakes away.

Climb back onto the ledge near the exit and have one character stand on each of the 2 buttons to open the door.

Area 2: Room with Spear Traps

Move forward carefully. If either character steps on the long button, spears spring out of the walls and floor ahead. Either avoid triggering the trap or, after it's sprung, have Sallah break the spears with his shovel.

There are several snakes in this area that respawn as you explore. Indy won't touch them, so switch to Sallah and hit them with the shovel.

FREE PLAY: Switch to a small-sized character and squeeze through the crawlspace on the left to emerge on the other side of the snake pit. Switch to a character with explosives and blow up the silver LEGO dinosaurs. This will let you get at the tan LEGO object between them. But first, toggle back to the small guy, grab the sword on the left and return through the crawlspace to the other side of the pit.

Throw the sword at the chain holding up the drawbridge to drop the bridge in place. Then carry the tan block across the bridge and drop it on the orange button on the right side of the room. This opens the large door nearby. Artifact piece #2 is inside.

Alternately, if you have a character equipped with a sword, there's no need to crawl through the hatch. Just cut the rope holding the bridge, cross over the pit, switch to a character with explosives and blow up the dinosaurs. Then carry the tan block to the button.

Now smash the stack of small jars on the left side of the alcove to open a secret passageway behind them. Go through into the chamber beyond. Push the tan block along the checkerboard floor, first to the left, then downscreen, then to the left again. When you've pushed it as far left as it will go, a beam of light reflects off of it, exploding the stone structure on the left so you can get at the spinner inside.

Push the green side of the spinner to raise a series of columns with refractive lenses on top. When you've pushed the spinner as far as it will go, and all of the columns have risen, a sunbeam strikes the big, golden globe, and it opens to reveal artifact piece #3. Get it and return to the main area.

Continue through this room, past another spear trap, to the door with the hieroglyph puzzle. Watch out for more snakes here. Have the character holding the blue book solve the puzzle to open the door. If you didn't pick up the book Indy dropped in the first room, you can get another one here by breaking the brown urns to the left of the door.

Area 3: Room with Staircase and Sphinx

The door on the left already has a golden key in its locking mechanism. Turn the key to open the door. Then punch through the LEGO brick wall to expose an alcove. Smash through the smaller bricked-up section inside to reveal artifact piece #4.

The door on the other side of the room is missing its golden key, but it's sitting in plain sight on the stairs. When you start up toward it, the stairs turn into a slide, dumping Indy, Sallah and the key at the bottom, along with a swarm of beetles. Crush the bugs and take the key.

Pick up the orange handle on the right and attach it to the green LEGO pad sticking out of the fat column nearby.

Use the key in the mechanism next to the column to open the gate. Then smash the wall behind it to get into the alcove beyond. Squash a few more beetles. Then use the LEGO bits in the alcove to build a Jackal head. Place it on the Anubis statue at the bottom of the slide on the right—the only one missing its head. This changes the slide back into stairs.

Now rotate the fat columns so Indy will be able to jump across the tops of them: Go to the column with the handle you just replaced and turn it so the ledge on top points to the left. Then move to the column on the near left and turn it so the ledge points toward the alcove where you found the artifact.

Have Indy jump to grab the dangling rope, climb up and jump onto the column. Then jump from the protruding ledge on this column to the ledge on the next column (i.e., on the other side of the doorway).

Switch to Sallah and have him rotate the column on which Indy is standing so the protruding ledge points to the right. Make sure to push the column as far as it will go and then have Sallah let go before switching back to Indy; otherwise the column won't stay in place. If you've positioned the column correctly, a spotlight will illuminate the wooden whip platform, showing it's ready to be used. Switch back to Indy and whip swing across to the column on the other side of the stairs.

Switch to Sallah and have him push the handle to rotate the column to the right. Then let go of the handle. Switch back to Indy and jump across to the final column. When Indy lands on the square button, the column sinks down to the floor.

Pick up the block with the sparkling diamond on top and carry it up the stairs. At the top, there are 2 rising platforms. The one on the right is broken, but you'll fix it in a moment. Step onto the platform on the left. When it rises to its full height, press the Use button to place the block with the diamond into the sphinx's eye.

Now climb onto the sphinx's left paw, pick up the wooden pallet and place it on the green LEGO plate to repair the other lift. Get the second block with a diamond from the sphinx's other paw, step onto the lift and place the block in the sphinx's other eye. When both diamonds are in place, the exit opens. Another small swarm of beetles emerges. Take care of them and go through.

FREE PLAY: Use explosives to blow up the silver statue on the left side of the staircase to make artifact piece #5 appear.

Area 4: Ark Room

At last the object of your quest is close at hand. There's just one more puzzle between you and the Ark. Begin by picking up the first golden orb on the floor to the left of the dais. Carry it up the low ramp in the back left corner and place it in the round hole on the wall. This lets in a beam of light, which refracts through one of the gems on the dais.

NOTE: There are 3 golden orbs and 3 receptacles. It doesn't matter which order you use the orbs or in which receptacles. This is just one possible solution.

Smash through the LEGO block wall on the left to find a LEGO platform. Carry it to the middle of the back wall and place it on the green plate to make a lift that will enable you to reach the hole above.

Return to the left side of the room and have Sallah dig up the sparkling patch of ground to reveal a second golden orb. Carry it onto the lift and drop it into the second hole.

Now move to the right side of the room and solve the glyph puzzle in the alcove. (If you no longer have the blue book from the previous area, have Sallah excavate the sparkly area on the right to find one.) Pressing the correct glyph sequence extends a pair of handrails on the wall. Have Indy to climb them to reach the ledge above. Then use the whip to snag the third golden orb from its sconce. Carry it up the ramp in the back right corner of the room and place it in the third hole.

With all three golden orbs in place, the sunbeams refracting through the gems converge, and the platform with the Ark of the Covenant rises from the dais. Approach it to trigger a cut scene.

Area 5: Snake Pit (Again)

Following the cut scene, in which Belloq steals the Ark and tosses Marion into the pit, you now control Indy and Marion.

Use either or both characters to grab the 2 ropes dangling from the statue on the right. This pulls down the wooden beams supporting the statue. They can then be smashed for studs.

Now move to the statue on the left. Have Indy stand on the wooden platform. Then switch to Marion and jump to grab the rope, hoisting the platform with Indy on it. Switch back to Indy and whip swing across to the other statue.

With the supports removed, Indy's weight is too much for the second statue. It topples over, making a huge hole in the wall so you can exit.

Area 6: Collapsed Passageway

The floor here has collapsed in places, so watch where you step. Use the railing on the wall to cross over the first several deep pits. Jump to grab the dangling vine and slide down to the bottom. (Here you may want to use Marion for her superior jumping ability.) When you reach the bottom of the vine, jump to the rough ledge on the right to get artifact piece #6. Jump back to the vine, climb up and continue to the right.

When you come to the wider ledge with the 2 brown urns, smash them to reveal a secret passageway. Go through to a dark cavern with rotating pillars. (This is technically a separate area, but since it's only one room, I've included it in Area 6.)

Artifact piece #7 is on the far right, and getting there is pretty tricky. You must use Marion for this, since Indy could never make the jumps.

Begin by jumping from the small, wooden platform to grab the nearest handhold on the first moving column. Ride it around to the right until you can see a handhold on the second column. Jump to grab it and then quickly jump to the left to grab the higher handhold on the first pillar, which will be rotating toward you. Then jump to the right to grab the higher handhold on the second column, which is turning away from you.

You can then jump directly from the upper handhold on the middle column to the ledge with the treasure chest on the far right. It's not necessary to try and grab the handhold on the third column.

When Marion lands on the ledge with the artifact, a wooden bridge extends to the left so you can easily get back to Indy. Return through the tunnel to the main passage.

Continue to the right. Stand Indy on the whip platform and swing across to the next ledge. Smash the spider webs in the corner to get the shovel the skeleton is holding. Use it to dig out the lever and then pull it to extend a ledge so Marion can cross.

Have both characters grab one of the dangling ropes to open the exit. Smash the beetles that emerge, then go through.

Area 7: Room with Snake Chutes

Step into the square depression with the checkerboard floor and use the loose LEGO bricks to build a tall, tan block. Don't move the block into the corner yet. You'll need it to reach a treasure chest in a few minutes.

Go to the right side of the room. Here you'll find a machine cog and more brown urns. Smash the urns—and the beetles that emerge from them—to get a golden key. Then dig up the sparkly patch of floor to find a second machine cog. (If you don't have a shovel, just go back through the doorway on the left to previous area. The shovel the skeleton is holding should have reappeared.)

Place the 2 cogs and the key in the machine on the back wall and turn the key to raise a stone ledge nearby.

Using Marion, jump onto the ledge near the entrance. The chute above dispenses snakes, one at a time. If you still have a shovel, use it to smash them without having to get too close. To close the chute, jump to grab the rope next to it. Then jump to the chute handle to pull it down. Jump back to the rope then to the ledge on the right (i.e., the one you raised by operating the machine).

Make your way across the ledges to the next snake chute. If you're agile, you can claim the purple stud hovering above as you close the chute: jump to grab the handle next to the chute, jump from there to the chute handle and quickly, before the chute closes, jump straight up to get the stud. As Marion drops back down, she'll grab the handle and close the chute. (If, like me, you miss the purple stud the first time through, you can always get it later in Free Play.)

Go to the right end of this ledge, watching out for any snakes that fall out of the third chute, and build a dangling rope from the loose bits. Climb the rope and jump to the chute handle to close it.

When you close the third chute, artifact piece #8 appears in the middle of the room. Marion can reach it by jumping from the top of the tan block you built from loose bricks.

Once you've obtained the treasure chest, slide the tan block into the depression in the far left corner of the checkerboard floor. This will enable Indy to reach the high ledges, and with the chutes closed, he won't have to worry about snakes.

Make your way across the ledges to the exit. Have each character stand on one of the 2 buttons to open it.

Area 8: Hall Lined with Coffins

You can smack the sarcophagi standing along the walls here to get studs and hearts, but be careful. The ones with the plain, flat fronts contain spears that pop out when you hit them. If you only smash the decorated ones—or stand far enough away and use Indy's whip to hit the plain ones—you should be fine. Continue to the end of the hallway and turn right.

FREE PLAY: Punch your way through the LEGO brick wall at the end of the line of coffins on the left and go through the doorway. (This is technically a separate area, but since both areas are small, I've combined them into one area for the walkthrough.)

Step on the white button to retract the curved spikes temporarily. Then quickly jump across. Stand on the second button on the other side to keep the spikes retracted while the other character crosses.

Smash the brown urn to get a golden key and use it in the mechanism to extend a ledge along the left wall. Grab the glyph tile from the pedestal and carry it to the ledge you just extended. A small block rises from the floor to give the character carrying the tile a boost onto the ledge. Cross over the ledge and use the tile to repair the glyph puzzle on the right.

Toggle to a character with the academic ability to solve the hieroglyph puzzle and obtain artifact piece #9. Then return through the doorway on the left to the hallway with the coffins.

Area 9: Room Filling with Sand

Use Indy to whip swing across to the ledge against the far wall, where you'll find a shovel. Use it to dig up the pieces for a ladder. Build it and climb to the next whip platform above.

Use the whip to pull down the LEGO panel ahead, forming a bridge. Cross over to get the golden key. Hop down onto the platform to the right. Marion can then join Indy by using the dangling vine to swing across.

Smash the wooden tub on the left side of the platform to get the second golden key. Then jump over to the next platform, where there are 2 mechanisms. Have each character use one of the keys to raise the farthest platform.

A Boss: The Giant Serpent appears on that ledge. Apparently Indy isn't scared of snakes as long as they're bigger than he is. ;) This one spits venom, though, so try to move quickly as you fight it. To defeat the snake, grab one of the burning torches from the column on the left, target the snake across the gap and throw the torch. Each successful hit knocks out one of its hearts. The torches continue to respawn, so you won't run out. When you've hit the snake five times, it disintegrates in a hail of LEGO bits.

Jump across to the ledge where the snake was and use its remains to build a lift that will enable you to reach the exit.

Or, you can take a little detour to get another artifact and a parcel: Step on the whip platform on the left and swing across to the opposite platform. Jump to the dangling rope on the right. Climb up, jump to the small handhold and from there, jump into the alcove on the left. Here you'll find artifact piece #10.

Smash through the stack of oil canisters and enter the passageway behind them.

NOTE: In a single-player game, Marion should appear automatically when you enter the new area. If you're playing a co-op game, have her ride the lift from the serpent platform to the ledge above, then jump across the handholds to the ledge with the passageway leading to this area. Do not push the block with the orange handle on the ledge above the lift, since that triggers the end of the level.

Area 10: Map Room

PARCEL: You do not need any special abilities to get this parcel. You can do this with Indy and Marion in Story Mode.

Enter the map room and pull the lever in the far left corner to open the large door next to it. Go to the far side of the next room and use a second lever there to open a hatch, allowing water to flow into the pool.

Smash the brown urn in the far right corner to get a golden key. Then use the LEGO bits lying nearby to repair the channel in the floor, letting water flow from the second hatch into the pool. Use the key to operate the mechanism on the right wall, opening a third hatch and filling the pool even more.

With all three channels flowing freely, the water soon overflows the pool, spreading out along the grooves in the floor into the next room. This causes bunches of flowers to sprout. Smash all 7 bunches of flowers to make the parcel appear.

Carry the parcel over to the pile of red LEGO bricks on the right. Use these to build a mailbox and send the parcel home. Then return through the passageway on the right to the previous area.

Later, when you've finished the level and returned to Barnett College, go to the Mail Room and pay the postage due to claim your parcel. In this case, 50,000 studs unlocks the "Fast Dig" Extra. (See Parcels & Extras for more info.)

Area 9: Room Filling with Sand (again)

From the ledge where you found artifact #10 earlier, jump across the rope and handholds to reach the small ledge above the one where you fought the serpent. Push the tan block with the orange handle to end the level.
